PROTECTOR, PACKING LIST
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
This description covers packing list protectors.
Salient characteristics.
The protector shall be formed from water-resistant composition board, rectangular in shape, with rounded corners, and shall be indented or recessed as shown in figure 1.
The dimensions and sizes shall be the overall outside measurements as shown in figure 1. Dimensions with a tolerance (see figure 1) shall be provided a + 1/16 inch tolerance.
A legend, either Packing List or Material Release/Receipt Documents, as specified, shall be embossed and of dimensions shown on figure 1 on the protectors.
For board between a thickness of 0.0062 and 0.080 inches, the minimum average bursting strength in the dry condition shall be 100 pounds per square inch, and a minimum of 75 pounds per square inch after 24 hours immersion. The thickness of the board shall be of the caliper specified in the contract or order. Boards shall be tested in accordance with ASTM D 2529.
The composition boards shall have a minimum water absorption of 15 percent. The water absorption test for the board shall be as follows: Condition specimen for 24 hours at 73o F. and 50 percent relative humidity and then weigh. Immediately, immerse in water at room temperature for 48 hours, surface dry, and reweigh. The moisture gain shall then be computed as a percentage of the pre-immersion weight.
The composition board specimen shall not fracture when tested as follows: The board shall be conditioned to a temperature of minus 20o F. Upon completion of conditioning, the board specimen shall be bent around a mandrel 180 degrees with a radius equal to 96 times the thickness of the specimen. Failure to meet the applicable requirements shall be cause for rejection.
Workmanship. The protectors shall be clean, free from pinholes, tears, cuts, sharp creases, wrinkles, and shall not stick together. The embossing shall be legible.
Regulatory requirements. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking. Preservation, packaging, packing, labeling, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
