COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BAG, CANVAS, HARDWARE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description by all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This document covers cloth hardware bags designed for the user to protect an item or items when not in use.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
2.1 Construction and materials. The bags shall be made of plain soft weave, unbleached cotton duck with a minimum weight of 417 gm/m2 (12.29 oz/yard2). The inside dimensions of the bag shall be 19 + 7 mm (7-1/2” + 1/4”) wide by 9-1/2” + 1/4” long (See Fig. 1). The bag shall be designed with a flap closure 83 + 7 mm (3-1/4” + 1/4”) long and a corrosion resistant snap fastener. The top half of the fastener shall be located 25 + 3.2 mm (1” + 1/8”) from the flap edge and centered. The bottom half of the fastener shall be suitably centered on the body if the bag to receive the top half of the fastener to provide a neat closure. The fastener shall be not less than 13 mm (1/2”) in diameter. The bag shall be sewn with polyester thread six to eight stitches per 25 mm (1”), or any other thread used commercially for this purpose at the option of the contractor. Thread breaks in all stitching shall be overstitched not less than 25mm (1”) at each break. Thread tension shall be maintained to avoid loose stitching. All threads ends shall be trimmed. The seams of the bag shall be a maximum of 4.7 mm (3/16”) from the edge of the material. Seams shall be evenly maintained and properly sewn to avoid runoffs, twists, pleats, or puckers. The bag shall be provided with a 13mm (1/2”) minimum wide cloth tape tie. The tie shall be securely attached to each side of the bag, inside, at the flap closure fold. The ties shall extend a minimum of 178mm (7”) from each side.
2.2 Workmanship. The bags shall be uniformly constructed and free from holes, cuts, splits, or other defects which may affect their serviceability.
