1. SCOPE. This description cover cushioned paper sacks for shipping items weighing not more than 4.535 kg (10 pounds). The paper sacks shall be of the following types, as specified:
Type I – Regular
Type II – Self Seal
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
2.1 Construction. The walls of the sack shall consist of 2 layers of craft paper with a cushioning medium of macerated paper inserted between the layers. The outer layer of craft paper shall be water resistant. The fabricated sacks shall pass the water resistance test and the impact resistance test. The edge of the inside seam may be located anywhere along the back of the sack. Unless otherwise specified, sack opening shall be on the short side.
2.1.1 Sealing flap (Type II). The open end of the sack shall be provided with adhesive sealing flap extending the entire width of the sack. The flap may be squared or tapered at the edges. The sealing flap shall have a strip pressure sensitive adhesive, protected by a liner. The liner and pressure sensitive adhesive shall extend across the width of the flap to within 12.7 mm (1/2”) of the edge on each side. Alternatively, the liner may extend up to 12.7 mm (1/2”) over the edge of the flap on each side.
2.1.2 Tear strip. Unless otherwise specified, an easy opening tear strip shall be incorporated into back of the sack, or on the closure flap extending across the width of the flap.
