2) Testing of the envelopes for Water Resistance. The lot size shall be expressed in envelopes. The sample unit shall be 1 envelope. The Inspection Level shall be S-1, the AQL shall be 2.5 percent defective. Each sample unit shall be tested for water resistance in accordance with ASTM D 951. One sheet of 9 pound (17 x 22 - 500) manifold paper folded in quarters shall be inserted into the envelope to simulate a packing list. The unfolded area of the sheet shall be not less than 2 times the area obtained by multiplying the length times the width of the envelope as determined in Section 1. B). The manifold paper may be cut to size or sheets may be taped together when necessary to make a simulated packing list of the proper size. The envelope shall be carefully closed using the safety fold and clasp and secured to a piece of wood by nailing or tacking through the attachment holes onto the wood. The wood, with the envelope attached, shall be placed in a vertical position (90 + 10°) in the test room or chamber and exposed to a medium intensity (2 + 1/2 inches per hour) spray of water at 73.4 + 3.6°F for not less than 24 hours. Immediately after exposure to the water spray, the packing list envelope shall be examined. The envelope shall remain securely attached to the piece of wood. Drops of water shall not be present inside the envelope. The simulated packing list shall remain dry enough so that it can be completely unfolded without tearing.
3) Examination of Packaging, Packing, Marking and Palletization. The lot size shall be expressed in units of issue for Packaging, Packing and Marking; and pallets for palletization. The sample unit shall be 1 fully prepared shipping container or pallet, as applicable. The Inspection Level shall be S-2 the AQL shall be 4.0 percent defective.
3. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:
The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials in accordance with Public Law 94-580 to the maximum extent practicable.
4. PACKAGING, PACKING, MARKING, AND PALLETIZATION:
Packaging, packing, marking and palletization shall be as specified in the contract or order.
