COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ENVELOPE, PACKAGING (CORRUGATED FIBERBOAR)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description in preference to Type I, Style A of
Federal Specification PPP-E-1533
This description covers packaging envelopes made from the single face corrugated fiberboard.
Classification. Envelopes shall be of the following sized as specified (see section 5).

1. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
A) Construction. Envelopes furnished under this description shall be made from single face corrugated fiberboard which contains not less than 40 percent post consumer recovered material, as not defined by 40 CFR Part 250. The facing shall weigh not less than 117 g/m2(24 pounds per 1000 square feet) for Size 1 or Size 2 envelopes and not less than 161 g/m2 (33 pounds per 1000 square feet) for Size 3 or Size 4 envelopes when tested in accordance with TAPPI T 410. The corrugating material shall weigh not less than 117 g/m2 (24 pounds per 1000 square feet) when tested in accordance with TAPPI T 410. The corrugating material and the facing shall be laminated together to form a 100 percent fiber tearing bond. Envelopes shall be made by folding and sealing the fiberboard. One short side shall remain unsealed. The corrugations shall be on the inside of the envelope with the flutes parallel to the long sides of the envelope. Corrugations in the seam area shall be crushed to obtain a firm bond. Envelopes shall be square cut and scored 38 mm + 7 mm (1-1/2 + 1/4 inches) from the open end so that the end may be folded over as a flap.
