COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BAG, PAPER (INSULATED)
This Commercial Item Description has been approve by the General
Services Administration/Federal Supply Service.
1. Scope. This description covers two types of insulated paper bags, designed to provide thermal protection for frozen, chilled, or heated perishable foods.
2. Salient characteristics:
2.1 Construction. The material used to fabricate the bags shall conform to the requirements of this description and all applicable provisions of Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
2.1.1 Type I bags shall be composed of kraft paper and aluminum foil. The aluminum foil shall be the exterior of the bag. Laminating material shall be applied adequately, throughout, between the foil and paper so that the plies shall be securely anchored. Center seams and bottom seams (bottom fold) shall be formed to the rear on the same face.
2.1.2 Type II bags shall be composed of two plies of kraft paper. The inner liner may also be wet-strength creped kraft paper with basis weight of 57 g/m2 (35 lb, 23”x36”-500) before creping, or embossed kraft paper. The bags shall be so constructed that the face with lip, bottom and center seams or overlaps shall be to the rear. The factory closed ends shall be adequately and securely sealed, both to the bottom of the folds and between the plies of the paper. Adhesive shall be applied in spots between the two plies at or near the top or open end of the bag to facilitate opening. Seams in successive plies shall be staggered approximately 2.5 cm (1”).
