5.2 Sampling. Bags shall be selected from each lot
for verification of the salient characteristics specified in Section 3. The
sample shall consist of 4 bags taken from each of 5 randomly selected units of
issue, giving a total sample of 20 bags.
5.2.1 Sampling for Dimensions, Style, and Workmanship. Thirteen of t he
bags sampled in paragraph 5.2 shall be examined for Dimensions, Style, and
Workmanship. No more than 1 nag shall fail to meet the requirements of
paragraph 3.2, 3.4, or 3.7.
5.2.2 Sampling for Impact Resistance. From the bags sampled in paragraph
5.2, select and test a sample for Impact Resistance in accordance with ASTM D
1709, Method A, to determine compliance with Table I. Unless otherwise
specified, the procedure for Routine Inspection and Acceptance shall be used
and 1 specimen shall be tested from each of 10 bags.
5.2.3 Sampling for Load Capacity. Take 5 intact bags from the sample
selected in paragraph 5.2 and test them for Load Capacity as specified in
Section 5.3.1.
5.2.4 Sampling for Seal Continuity. Take 5 intact bags from the sample
selected in paragraph 5.2 and test them for Seal Continuity as specified in
Section 5.3.2.
5.3 Testing.
5.3.1 Load Capacity Test. Bags selected for the Load Capacity test shall
be placed on a smooth horizontal surface and spread open as wide as possible to
facilitate inserting the test load. When cans constitute the test load shall be
gently placed in the bag and shall be distributed throughout the bottom portion
of the bag. Stacking is not required, but bunching up to the test load, the bag
shall be grasped or clamped within 30 cm (12 inches) of the top and raised by
hand or mechanical means until the bottom of the bag is not less than 30 cm (12
inches) from the floor. The bag shall be held in this position for not less
than 6- seconds. Any spillage of the rest load constitutes failure of the test.
If 1 or more of the 5 bags selected for this test fails, the lot shall be
rejected.
